My name is Robert Moses (Bob). It was in the 20th century. I constructed parks, highways, bridges, playgrounds, housing, tunnels, beaches, zoos, civic centers, exhibition halls, and the 1964-65 New York World's Fair.
As a child, me and my family moved to New York City. My mother Bellaw as very active in the Settlement House movement. I was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1888.
I played a larger role in shaping the physical environment of New York. in April 22, 1964, I opened the New York World's Fair. In 1914, I began to work on New York Politics. My goals was to get rid of New York patronage hiring practices. In 1933, I was appointed head of the New York City Parks Department and Head of the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
Seventy-five years ago, on April 30, 1939, the New York World's Fair opened. It was the first such exposition to focus on the future. Me and the others that helped out our "blood and tears" into the fair. We've put new consumer and industrial products such as television, air conditioning, nylon stocking, and color film.
While building the fair, we dicided that the theme was "Peace through Understanding." In the World's Fair, it had over 1100 restaurants.
The fair was successful and people from around the world came to the fair. The fair was noted as a showcase of mid twentieth century American culture and technology. The impact resulted in two drastic changes to the area. First was the construction of new arterial highways and the diversion of the Flushing River. Things that exist nowadays were invented from the fair, like Cherry Coke, color televisions, touch screens, and the telephones.
