Marcus Garvey (1887 - 1940):
Can you imagine the impact of a visionary leader who advocated for the empowerment and unity of the Black diaspora? Marcus Garvey, born on August 17, 1887, was a Jamaican-born leader and activist who founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).

Garvey's vision centered on economic self-sufficiency and pride in Black identity. His Back-to-Africa movement aimed to unite people of African descent worldwide. Despite facing challenges and controversy, Marcus Garvey's legacy endures as a symbol of Black empowerment and Pan-African solidarity.

The following figureheads were contemporaries of this figurehead. A contemporary is someone who shares the same era of time, engages in a similar dialogue, and contributes to a similar school of thought.
